What is the Share Portfolio?

The share portfolio enables you to enter your own personal share holding and monitor the performance of it. The details that you enter will be saved and can be retrieved at any time to monitor the latest values and performance.

How does it work?

You simply enter the number of shares you own, the cost of those shares and other optional information such as brokerage costs and dividends received, and the rest is calculated automatically for NZX, ASX, LSE, NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX listed stocks.

  • There is a greater range of display options and you have the ability to display your preferred ones and also select a full detailed view on each entry by clicking the "+" button beside that entry.
  • You can be alerted to moves in the value of your holdings using Alerts.
  • You can enter your dividend payments that you have received and have the annual return calculated on your investment.
Portfolio Columns that are displayed:
  • SYMB This is the stock exchange or quote code for that particular Company, Commodity, etc.
  • EXCH This will be either NZX / ASX / NYSE / NASDAQ / AMEX / etc.
  • LAST The last sale price for the stock.
  • CHANGE The change in the price during the current trading day.
  • PRICES The purchase price for your shares.
  • SHARES The number of shares that you have entered as being owned.
  • COST The Total Cost is calculated as Shares x Cost + Brokerage.
  • VALUE The Current Value = Shares x Last.
  • GAIN/LOSS Current Value - Total Cost also expressed as a percentage of the Cost.
How do I create an additional Portfolio?

Your portfolio comes with a 'Default' portfolio and a 'Default' watchlist. To create an additional portfolio follow these steps: At the base of the portfolio page you will see the words 'Create a New Portfolio' with a box with 'NewPortfolioName' in it. Replace 'NewPortfolioName' with the name that you wish to give to your additional portfolio then click on the 'Create' button. You will now see a new portfolio on your page. You can now enter shares into as per the instruction below.

How do I add a Stock/Share to my Portfolio?

At the top of the portfolio page you will see 'Add a Symbol'. Beside this you will find two drop down boxes. Select the portfolio that you wish to add the stock too, select the exchange and then enter the stock symbol in the next box. When you click the 'Add' button, you will be presented with an EDIT screen. You can now enter the number of shares you are purchasing, the date, the price per share and the brokerage.

How do I remove a Stock/Share from my Portfolio?

On the far right hand side of each portfolio row there is an X icon. If you click on this icon you will be asked if you are sure that you want to delete the symbol. If you click on Yes, the stock/share will be removed permanently from your portfolio.

How many portfolios can I have?

You can have as many portfolios as you like with an unlimited number of shares in each.

Are my shares adjusted for splits?

The new price will automatically appear. You will need to manually adjust the your holding and cost to reflect the new position.

What does the Annual Return represent?

This represents the return on your investment after deducting costs, adding in the annual return and the capital gain over the period that you have owned the share. It is a more accurate way of comparing the return on different type of investments.

Can I compare performance to an index in my portfolio?

You can, you enter them on your watch list the movements will be recorded from the day that you set them up.

My annual return is considerably higher than the % change.

The % change simply looks at the change in value. The annual return takes into account time and dividends. For example if you owned the shares for 1 month and had a 20% gain in that period, the annual return will be significantly higher.

How does the dividend field work?

If you want an annual return calculated you should enter the dividends you have received over the period that you have held the share.
